The head of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps says the downing of a US spy drone was a clear message that Iran will give a firm response to any aggression to its borders.
The incident took place in the southern province of Hormozgan. The IRGC issued a statement, saying the drone was downed after stealthily entering the Iranian airspace and engaging in espionage operations.
Some media reports quoted a US official as saying that a drone was shot down in international airspace over the Strait of Hormuz by an Iranian surface-to-air missile. He said the drone was an MQ-4C Triton. Iran’s foreign ministry strongly condemned violation of the country’s airspace. It said the responsibility for the consequences of the action lies with the aggressor.
