On Thursday, November 18, 2021, MCSO deputies received information that a stolen vehicle was in the SW area of Marion County. K9 Deputy Tortora located the white Volkswagen Jetta on SW 145th Street and confirmed it was reported stolen out of the Bradenton Police Department.
As K9 Deputy Tortora approached the vehicle in his patrol car, the driver, Miguel Narez (H/M, DOB: 12/23/1979), pulled over onto the shoulder of the road. K9 Deputy Tortora activated his emergency lights, at which time Narez reentered the roadway and continued to drive away at a low rate of speed. Narez eventually turned onto SW 8th Avenue and accelerated, so K9 Deputy Tortora initiated a vehicle pursuit.
After coming to the dead end of SW 8th Avenue, Narez crashed through a gate into an open field and continued to flee. Narez encountered a second fence at the other end of the field and fled on foot. K9 Deputy Tortora issued K9 warnings and released his partner, K9 Leo, to apprehend him. After a short foot pursuit, K9 Leo apprehended Narez, who was found to have a concealed firearm in his waistband. Detective Mundorff assisted K9 Deputy Tortora with Narez’s arrest and a second firearm was located in his pocket.
Narez was placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he is held without bond.
