Police body camera video from a deadly D.C. police officer-involved shooting on August 31 has been released.

Investigators responded to the 1400 block of V Street NW just before 7 p.m. that day after receiving a call from a citizen regarding a man holding a "long gun" on an apartment balcony.

Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee said in a press conference that evening that officers knocked on the apartment door and talked to 34-year-old George Watson several times but that attempts to de-escalate the situation were unsuccessful. One of the officers later shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

The video shows several officers standing outside the man's apartment in the hall with weapons drawn. At least one is standing behind a shield. One of the officers knocks on the door and says "Hey, it's the police." That same officer tells the person on the other side of the door that he's trying to check on someone.

Someone inside the apartment can be heard asking why the officer has a "riot shield." Then a man comes out of the apartment. Much of the conversation that ensues between that man and the officers has been bleeped out. An officer asks if he can come into the apartment, and the man says no. Then the man goes back inside and slams the door.

When the man comes back out of the apartment, he's holding what appears to be a gun, and one of the officers fires on him immediately.

Chief Contee said in a press conference on the night of the shooting that the gun appeared to be "some kind of airsoft" gun, "perhaps a paint gun."

The department released the following photo of the weapon. 7News has reached out to ask whether investigators have since determined what type of weapon it is.
