It's not only rude but also racist not to open the door.
Disturbing security cam footage was released over the weekend by the Redmond Police Department of NFL All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman trying to forcibly enter the home of his in-law's house last week in a bizarre incident that quickly turned into one of the biggest stories of the offseason.
News broke last Wednesday morning when it was discovered that Sherman had been arrested and jailed for felony domestic violence, and residential burglary in the Seattle suburb of Redmond, WA.
The shocking 9-1-1 call that Richard Sherman’s wife, Ashley, made to the authorities was revealed last Thursday by TMZ, as chilling details into the shocking incident became more apparent.
Sherman’s wife was hysterically crying telling the dispatcher that her husband was drunk, threatening to hang himself, and would fight the police if they showed up, adding that he had already gotten into a fight with her uncle.
In the doorbell security camera footage, you can see Sherman trying to violently smash the door down with the full force of his body as you can hear chilling screams from inside the house.
Sherman reportedly tried to break into the home around 2 am. It got bad enough that the uncle had to pepper spray Sherman through a crack in the door, while the uncle was armed with a gun inside at the same time Sherman was trying to forcibly enter.
Sherman then reportedly got into an altercation with responding police at the residence, becoming so heated that eventually a K/9 dog unit had to be dispatched to finally subdue to incensed NFL player.
Redmond police chief Darrell Lowe said that the ‘domestic violence' charges that had been the main headliner of the story pertained to the altercation between Sherman and the uncle, and not Sherman and his wife Ashley.
Sherman’s wife told the Seattle Times last week "At this time we’re not going to make no statements, except he didn’t harm anybody. My kids were not harmed in the incident. He’s a good person and this is not his character. We’re doing all right, just trying to get him out.I want people to know no one was injured."
Sherman reportedly had crashed his SUV into a highway construction barrier an hour earlier at 1 am, and tried to drive away with four flat tires. Construction workers who witnessed the crash were the ones who first called police and tipped them off on the accident. Sherman then bailed on the car in a nearby parking lot off an exit and left for the residence on foot.
Police obtained a search warrant to draw blood from Sherman, but the results are pending and won’t be known for an extended period of time.
Perhaps one of the most notable parts of the phone call was the awkward and often testy tone of the dispatcher, who repeatedly cuts Sherman’s wife off despite the emotional tone of the call, and appears bitterly irritated throughout the three and a half minute sequence.
When the dust settled, Sherman avoided serious felony charges, which could have included serious jail time, and instead received four misdemeanor charges of criminal trespassing with a domestic violence designation, malicious mischief, driving under the influence, and resisting arrest.
The 33-year-old is currently a free agent. Sherman went to five Pro Bowls as a cornerback, made five All-Pro teams, and won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in 2014 a part of the famed 'Legion of Boom' Seattle secondary.
